Here is a list of somewhat obscure artists that have put out albums in the past few years that have shot right to the top of my list. Some of the bands are now defunct, and actually, some of them may have earlier work but I only discovered them recently.

I’ve tried to link to a place you can listen where possible.

The Gaslight Anthem – Sink or Swim
Their follow up, “The 59 Sound,” is one of the most talked about albums in music

The Casting Out – GO CRAZY! Throw Fireworks!
Nathan Grey of legendary boysetsfire’s new band. Their EP is probably my favorite recording ever, the full length has taken a slightly different tone, but is still a top selection in the library.

The Draft – In a Million Pieces
Hot Water Music minus Chuck Ragan but not hwm music

Let Me Run – Meet Me at the Bottom
some young upstarts from central jersey

The Loved Ones – Keep Your Heart
something good came out of philly!

The Hold Steady – Stay Positive
That’s right, I love piano in my rock

Asobi Seksu – Citrus
Brooklyn based Dream Pop

Tim Barry – Rivanna Junction
front man of Avail gone folk

The Bouncing Souls – The Gold Album
These guys have been doing it for 20 years now and it just keeps getting better. Somehow these guys are in the middle of it all.

Hot Water Music – ‘Til the Wheels Fall Off
These guys have been with me for years, my dear old friends. See also The Draft, also notable is Chuck Ragan’s solo project.

This Charming Man – Every Little Secret
Singer from Gaslight Anthem’s previous effort. It’s a killer EP distinct from GLA

If you haven’t heard, I really love the service.
It tracks your music listening habits, then, based on this, you get recommendations, concert listings, and the occasional free download.
