All Winters Eve: Chapter 1:2 Adjustments

It wasn’t the best sleep I ever had, but I feel pretty well rested. I’m so nervous I couldn’t really eat breakfast. I did my best to swallow a slice of toast with some bacon and a cup of coffee.

Looking around at all of these people in their beautiful holiday clothes, I realize I haven’t worn anything but a uniform for as long as I can remember. I wonder of there are any clothes at the house that will fit me? I suppose that it might be nice to have some nice clothes. I’ve never thought about it before. I hear that winters are cold in the Periphery. Maybe I should have gotten something before I left. I couldn’t wait though. I went straight from my Dispensation to the Capitol Rail Yard without even thinking.

We should be arriving at my stop shortly. I wonder how far of a walk it is to the estate. Come to think of it, I don’t even know how to get there.

I’ve had eight months to prepare for this trip, yet it seems I haven’t planned at all. In the Legion it wasn’t all routine, but a lot of the small details were taken care of for us. Adjusting to life as an ordinary citizen might not be so easy. I’m looking forward to it though.

The country side looks so beautiful through the windows.
